Biloxi Lighthouse Park is a post-hurricane Katrina $5.2 million federally funded venture park renovation and expansion featuring a visitor’s center, a nature trail, native foliage and plantings, as well as a children’s playground.
“It was an interesting challenge, to create an environmentally friendly, educational site,” said Leigh Jaunsen of Dale Partners. “It’s a part of the visitor’s center, which is a very formal, developed building. We had to think through carefully how we were going to merge these two.”
Jaunsen utilized an undeveloped, low-impact portion on the north side of the park, where a Wickcraft boardwalk creates a walking path surrounded by native foliage. This also provided a nice buffer for the nearby neighborhood.
The boardwalk rests on non-penetrating pan-foot legs and the whole system is anchored with DuckBill hurricane anchors.
