FAQ - Wickcraft Docks / Pier Systems
Q: I need a new boat dock or pier but the bottom of our lake is covered with two feet of soft mud and I worry about having to constantly adjust the leg lengths. What can I do to keep my boat dock or pier from sinking out of sight?
A: Professional installers create a larger pad under the footplate to support the dock. Patio blocks or pieces of green-treated plywood are inexpensive ways to solve the problem for piers in a muddy lake.
Q: I replaced my old pier with a new Wickcraft boat dock last year. I intend to store it behind my shed in the off-season. Are there any recommended maintenance tips I need to be aware of to protect my new boat dock during the winter?
A: If your new dock has cedar decks we recommend covering them with a plastic tarp. The galvanized frame and vinyl decking are fine to store outside.
Q: I have an old sectional aluminum dock that needs to be replaced in the near future. It is 100 feet long and I was hoping to replace half of it this year and half next year. Is it possible to attach the new boat dock to the old aluminum dock for a year?
A: Wickcraft Docks offers a connecting bracket that is used to tie into seawalls, steps or existing piers.(even aluminum piers)
Q: How often do I need to treat the cedar decking on my new boat dock?
A: Docks with cedar decking do not have to be treated; however if you do, every other year is sufficient.
Q: Floating docks and floating piers can be difficult to walk on at times. I want a stable boat dock but my water level varies every year. How difficult is it to adjust a Wickcraft dock?
A: Just loosen the set bolt with a 9/16" wrench and adjust the pier up or down. Our docks are designed to accommodate changing water depths.
Q: I live on a small lake in Minnesota that does not have any current. Do I have to take my boat dock out every year?
A: Do as your neighbors do. If they remove their piers, I would recommend you remove your pier. If they leave their pier in it should be safe for you to leave your pier in. However, our pier is easy to remove and we recommend that you do not subject it to moving ice conditions.
Q: I have an existing Wickcraft boat dock that is 10 years old. How difficult is it add two sections to the left?
A: With the use of a connecting bracket it is very easy to add on to your Wickcraft Pier. We can easily attach additional dock sections to your Wickcraft boat dock or to other boat docks. (in either direction)
Q: My neighbor has an aluminum pier that has 10-foot sections. Why does the Wickcraft dock come in 6-foot sections?
A: Docks with 6' sections are much easier to install and remove and they make the pier far more stable. Boat dock storage in the off-season is simple, and occupies less space with a Wickcraft boat dock than with many aluminum piers.
Q: I have a need for some pier accessories for my boat dock. I do not own a Wickcraft boat dock and wondered if your pier accessories will work on my aluminum dock?
A: Many of our pier accessories are compatible with other aluminum pier systems. Our pier accessories can even work with floating docks.
Q: I have a Wickcraft boat dock that works great but in recent years the water level has fluctuated as much as 3 feet. I have an old floating dock that I was thinking about adding on the end of my existing pier. Is this possible?
A: It is quite common to link a sectional boat dock to a floating pier. The additional stability of a sectional boat dock can still be enjoyed while the floating dock allows for fluctuation in water depth.
